Psalm 133. Everybody now…
"Hinneh mah Tov umah naʿiym sheveth aḥiym gam yaḥadh."
This is the first song my dad taught my brother and I in Hebrew. In English, it most likely will be more familiar. Translated, it says:
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" Psalms 133:1
It is understood that unity is most important in everything we do. Without it, there is no structure, no happiness, no togetherness, no peace. We as believers cannot be a witness without it, nor can we be in Christ.
Just look at Ephesians 4:11-116:
“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors, and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.”
You should read the whole chapter, but here we will concentrate on 13 and surrounding verses, this is the heart of our focus for today. When you read the chapter, notice that verses 11-16 is one statement and should be read together. The reason for all the verses all comes down to verse 13. It’s a beautiful promise and a serious warning at the same time.
Without unity, the scripture mentions we are tossed to and fro (here and there) with every wind of doctrine being deceived, but with unity we are one with each other, strong in faith and best of all, one with the Father. We become perfect with the Father and the measure of the fullness of of Christ. This is the ultimate goal for us to live our everyday lives. As, I close out this thought for today, remember that the strength of unity is love. We all know what love is and WHO love is. GOD=Love. So, unity can only exist with love, and love can only exist with GOD.
