Thank God for Buts...

I had already talked to a few ministers about what was on my heart and what I was going to name this particular blog. Being who I am, I told the name of the blog first, then I just paused and waited for their reaction (I am smiling as I type this, by the way). Needless to say, the reaction was what I expected. One guy said, Oh yeah? Really? Thinking I was joking. Another didn’t say anything really. He just raised his eyebrows and his eyes revealed both fear that I might not be kidding and possible disappointment and concerned of where I may be spiritually. Silly as it may seem, it’s true.
I have read so many sad stories hoping for a ‘but’ to change the outcome for the characters involved. I have heard so many stories that needed a ‘but’ to change the destiny of people that did not deserve what they received in life. I have also read in scripture where sinners suffer a terrible demise, an eternal punishment of darkness and pain. I was one of them. I didn’t want to go down that road nor could I convince GOD to make an exception. I had to realize that everything is bound to the rules that GOD applied to them since creation.
Science, physics and even reality itself bows to their Creator in recognition. In knowing that sin temps us to failure. Depletes us of hope. Strips us in shame. Condemns us to an everlasting torment in darkness…. And somewhere in the midst of that darkness, that loneliness that seems to drown out all hope comes a three letter word that has been given the power to alter your world and everyone’s destiny in it.. I Corinth. 6:9-11 ….Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. That little word changed everything. We are no longer destined for failure. No longer children of the night. No longer thieves. No longer condemned. No longer chained to the lusts that bound us. That ‘but’ became the light at the end of the tunnel. The way out. Freedom is now yours. Yours just for the asking, from the one who gives it. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father except by Me.”
Jesus is the one who offers that destiny altering word. Allow Him to put a but in your story that reads so sad and watch that sad story bring a smile to everyone who reads it.
