I’m Still Standing

It started out as a great day. As most great days go, the birds were chirping in the morning and the sun was about to burst through the clouds with a nice cool breeze blowing. I love the early morning. To see the night give in to the rays of light peeking through the horizon. The moon gradually yields to the power of the sun to bring warmth to those about to start their day. I thank the LORD for His blessings and that He would guide my path for the day and…. then it happened. I see a flat tire on my car. No big deal, I’ll just grab the spare. Guess what? Flat. Oh, well, I guess I will fix it later. Then I get a call from my wife. The A/C in the other car is not working. The van goes in the shop. It needed way more than what we thought. Our rental A/C goes out. Wave after wave, we get all kinds of news as if it were a prank. My wife and I talk about it after work and look around waiting for a camera to pop from the bushes and people laughing from the Candid Camera show. The timing was uncanny.

Just a few short hours ago, I was being thankful of how well everything was going and how well I was feeling. Servant after servant came, one after another, delivering the worst news one could imagine. Job, kept asking GOD what he did and that He would search his heart for anything Job should ask forgiveness for, but all he heard was silence. Just because GOD is speaking doesn’t mean He isn’t listening. I am reminded of the scripture in Ephesians 6, “Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.” Sometimes, an attack of the enemy is not that obvious, but it is necessary to see the spiritual side of the calamity you may be facing. It would be easy to give up and make a harsh and speedy decision based on current feelings, but GOD’s Word explains the best way. It says to take up the full armor of GOD. To do that, I have to put each piece on at a time. In doing so, I have to identify what I am putting on. It’s one thing to say armor, but another to say, Salvation, Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Sword of the Spirit, and most of all, Faith. It means so much more to say the individual items and recognise their power and influence in our lives. Finally, to have faith that they all work together to deliver us from the enemy and bring victory over our situations and whatever the devil throws at us.

So, when the o
